Overview
ZERUST® VCI Vapor Capsules are compact, plug-and-protect corrosion inhibitor devices engineered for enclosed metal environments. Each capsule contains a proprietary blend of Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) compounds that continuously emit corrosion-inhibiting molecules into the surrounding air space, forming an invisible, monomolecular protective film on all exposed metal surfaces within the enclosure.
How VCI Technology Works
VCI molecules vaporize at room temperature and migrate through the air inside a sealed or semi-sealed enclosure. Upon contact with metal surfaces — including ferrous metals, copper, brass, aluminum, and multi-metal assemblies — they adsorb and form a protective molecular barrier that interrupts the electrochemical corrosion process. This protection is entirely reversible: when the capsule is removed, the film dissipates cleanly, leaving no residue on sensitive electronic components or contacts.
Key Application Environments
ZERUST® VCI Vapor Capsules are purpose-built for environments where traditional corrosion protection methods are impractical:
- Electrical control panels and motor control centers (MCCs)
- Switchgear, distribution boards, and junction boxes
- Instrumentation enclosures and relay panels
- Telecommunications and data equipment cabinets
- Enclosed storage areas for spare parts, tools, and metal components
Benefits for Gulf & Middle East Industrial Operations
The Gulf and Middle East region presents some of the most aggressive corrosion conditions in the world — combining high ambient humidity, salt-laden coastal air, extreme temperatures, and airborne dust and contaminants. ZERUST® VCI Vapor Capsules are specifically effective in these conditions, providing:
- Continuous protection without interrupting equipment operation
- Reduced maintenance costs and unplanned downtime caused by corrosion-related failures
- Extended service life of critical electrical and electronic assets
- Protection of multi-metal assemblies without risk of galvanic incompatibility
Installation & Usage
Installation is straightforward and requires no special tools or training. Simply mount or place the capsule inside the enclosure — using the integrated clip, adhesive pad, or hanging hook depending on the variant — ensuring it is positioned to allow free vapor circulation. One capsule typically protects enclosures up to 0.03 m³ (30 liters); larger enclosures may require multiple units. Capsules should be replaced according to the manufacturer's recommended service interval, typically every 12–24 months depending on ambient conditions.
Safety & Compliance
ZERUST® VCI Vapor Capsules are safe for use in energised electrical environments. The VCI compounds are non-conductive, non-flammable, and leave no oily or waxy residue on electrical contacts or circuit boards. The product is compliant with RoHS directives and is free from nitrites, phosphates, and heavy metals. ZERUST® technology is backed by decades of field-proven performance across oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and manufacturing industries worldwide.
