Overview

Product Overview

ZERUST® ZerioTec® Fog MV is a premium, ready-to-use water-based Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) liquid developed specifically for fogging and spray delivery systems. Designed to protect metals within hermetically sealed or sealable enclosures, it leverages ZERUST's proven VCI technology to create a self-replenishing molecular barrier that prevents rust and corrosion on both ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces — without the need for direct contact or post-treatment rinsing.

Engineered for the extreme heat, humidity, and salt-laden atmospheres prevalent across the Gulf and Middle East region, ZerioTec® Fog MV provides dependable corrosion protection during storage, transit, and long-term preservation of critical industrial assets.

How VCI Fogging Works

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor technology works by releasing active VCI molecules into the enclosed atmosphere. These molecules migrate through the air and adsorb onto all exposed metal surfaces — including recessed, complex, and otherwise inaccessible geometries — forming an ultra-thin, invisible monomolecular protective film. This film interrupts the electrochemical reactions responsible for corrosion, effectively neutralising the threat posed by moisture, oxygen, and corrosive contaminants.

When applied via fogging equipment or spray, ZerioTec® Fog MV rapidly saturates the enclosed space with VCI vapour. The protection is self-sustaining within the sealed environment: as VCI concentration at the metal surface depletes, fresh molecules continue to vaporise from residual liquid droplets, maintaining continuous protection throughout the storage or transit period.

Application Method

ZerioTec® Fog MV is applied using standard fogging machines or spray equipment. The ready-to-use formulation requires no dilution, simplifying on-site application and reducing the risk of dosing errors. The recommended procedure is as follows:

  1. Ensure the enclosure, container, or equipment cavity is clean and free of standing water or heavy contamination.
  2. Introduce ZerioTec® Fog MV using a fogging machine or spray applicator at the recommended dosage rate for the enclosed volume.
  3. Seal the enclosure promptly after application to retain the VCI atmosphere.
  4. No rinsing or removal of residue is required prior to placing equipment back into service.

Compatible Metals

ZerioTec® Fog MV is formulated to protect a broad range of metals commonly encountered in industrial applications, including:

  • Carbon steel and mild steel
  • Cast iron and ductile iron
  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminium and aluminium alloys
  • Copper and copper alloys (brass, bronze)
  • Galvanised steel

Key Use Cases

Pipelines and Pipeline Components

Internal pipeline surfaces are notoriously difficult to protect using conventional coatings or contact inhibitors. ZerioTec® Fog MV can be fogged directly into pipeline sections, bends, and manifolds, ensuring complete internal coverage regardless of geometry. It is particularly suited to the preservation of idle or mothballed pipelines in oil and gas, petrochemical, and water infrastructure projects across the Gulf region.

Storage Tanks and Vessels

Empty or partially filled storage tanks are highly susceptible to internal corrosion from residual moisture and atmospheric oxygen. Fogging ZerioTec® Fog MV into sealed tanks creates a protective VCI atmosphere that guards internal surfaces throughout extended storage periods, reducing maintenance costs and extending asset service life.

Enclosed Equipment and Machinery

Pumps, compressors, gearboxes, control panels, and other enclosed industrial equipment benefit from VCI fogging during shutdown, storage, or long-distance transport. The vapour penetrates internal cavities and protects components that cannot be reached by sprays or coatings.

Shipping Containers and Export Packaging

Metal goods and equipment shipped in sealed containers are exposed to fluctuating temperatures and humidity during transit — conditions that accelerate corrosion. Fogging ZerioTec® Fog MV into the container before sealing establishes a protective VCI atmosphere for the entire journey, safeguarding cargo integrity from origin to destination.

Advantages of the Water-Based Formula

The water-based formulation of ZerioTec® Fog MV offers significant practical and environmental advantages over solvent-based alternatives:

  • Low VOC content — compliant with environmental regulations and safe for use in enclosed spaces
  • Non-flammable — eliminates fire and explosion risk during application and storage
  • No hazardous solvent residues — safer for personnel and the environment
  • No rinsing required — protected equipment can be returned to service immediately
  • Compatible with most paints, elastomers, and plastics typically found in industrial assemblies

Suitability for Gulf and Middle East Climates

The Gulf and Middle East region presents some of the world's most aggressive corrosion environments: extreme ambient temperatures exceeding 50 °C, high relative humidity in coastal zones, airborne salt from marine and desert sources, and frequent thermal cycling between day and night. These conditions dramatically accelerate corrosion on unprotected metal surfaces.

ZerioTec® Fog MV is specifically validated for performance under these demanding conditions. Its VCI chemistry remains effective across a wide temperature range, and the hermetically sealed application method ensures that the protective atmosphere is maintained even when external conditions fluctuate. For asset owners and operators in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain, ZerioTec® Fog MV represents a proven, cost-effective solution for long-term corrosion management.
