Overview
Actuator Type Valves are pneumatically operated ball valves that integrate a valve body with a rack-and-pinion actuator into a single, compact assembly. Designed for automated process control, these units eliminate the need for separate valve and actuator procurement, offering a pre-engineered solution that simplifies installation, reduces leak points, and ensures reliable on/off or modulating control across a wide range of industrial applications.
The rack-and-pinion mechanism converts linear pneumatic force into precise rotary motion, driving the ball valve through a 90° quarter-turn to open or close the flow path. This design delivers high torque output relative to actuator size, ensuring positive seating even under elevated line pressures. The direct coupling between the actuator and valve stem minimises backlash and mechanical play, resulting in accurate and repeatable positioning throughout the service life of the assembly.
Valve bodies are available in stainless steel (SS) for corrosive or hygienic service environments, and carbon steel (CS) for general industrial and utility applications. The pneumatic actuator housing is manufactured from lightweight, high-strength aluminium, reducing overall assembly weight while maintaining structural integrity under cyclic loading. Internal components are selected for compatibility with a broad range of process media, including water, steam, oils, gases, and mild chemicals.
Two actuation modes are available to suit different control philosophies. Double-acting actuators use compressed air to both open and close the valve, providing positive control in both directions and maximum torque throughout the stroke. Spring-return actuators use air pressure to move the valve in one direction and an internal spring to return it to a defined fail-safe position — either fail-open or fail-closed — upon loss of air supply, making them ideal for safety-critical applications. All units conform to the ISO 5211 direct mount interface standard, enabling straightforward integration with positioners, solenoid valves, limit switch boxes, and other accessories without the need for adapter brackets.
Available in sizes from DN15 to DN200, these actuated valve assemblies are suited to a broad spectrum of process automation duties including chemical dosing, water treatment, HVAC systems, oil and gas distribution, food and beverage processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Their compact footprint, standardised interfaces, and robust construction make them a dependable choice for both new installations and retrofit projects requiring reliable automated flow control.
