The angle valve is an angle-pattern globe valve engineered for precise throttling and positive shut-off in demanding industrial applications. Its distinctive 90° body configuration allows the valve to serve simultaneously as a flow-control device and a pipeline direction change fitting, eliminating the need for a separate elbow and reducing pressure drop across the installation. It is widely used in steam distribution systems, hot water heating circuits, and general process piping where space constraints or system layout require an in-line directional change.

Body Materials and Construction

The valve body is manufactured from high-quality bronze or brass, both of which offer excellent corrosion resistance, good machinability, and reliable performance across a wide range of media. Bronze bodies are preferred for steam and higher-temperature applications due to their superior strength at elevated temperatures, while brass bodies are commonly selected for hot and cold water service. The bonnet and internal components are precision-machined to ensure leak-tight sealing and long service life. The renewable seat design allows the seating surface to be replaced in the field without removing the valve body from the pipeline, significantly reducing maintenance downtime and total cost of ownership.

Connections, Sizes, and Ratings

Angle valves are available with screwed BSP (British Standard Pipe) or NPT (National Pipe Taper) end connections to suit both metric and imperial piping systems. The size range spans 1/4" to 2" nominal bore, covering the majority of small-bore and medium-bore process and utility piping requirements. The valve is pressure-rated to 16 bar (PN16) and temperature-rated to 200°C, making it suitable for saturated steam service, pressurised hot water systems, and a broad spectrum of industrial process fluids including oils, gases, and mild chemicals.

Installation and Flow Direction

Correct installation of the angle valve requires attention to flow direction, which is clearly marked on the valve body. Flow should enter through the bottom of the seat (under the disc) to allow the valve to close against line pressure, ensuring positive shut-off and preventing seat erosion during throttling. The 90° outlet orientation must align with the downstream piping direction. The valve should be installed with the handwheel accessible for operation and maintenance. Standard globe valve installation practices apply, including the use of appropriate thread sealant on screwed connections and pressure testing after installation in accordance with applicable site or system standards.
