Overview
The CPVC Butterfly Valve is a high-performance quarter-turn valve engineered for reliable flow control and positive shut-off in demanding chemical piping systems. Available in both lug and wafer mounting styles, it offers versatile installation options between ANSI and DIN flanges across a size range of DN50 to DN200.
Construction and Materials
Both the valve body and disc are manufactured from Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC), a thermoplastic material renowned for its exceptional resistance to a broad spectrum of aggressive chemicals, elevated temperatures, and corrosive media. CPVC construction eliminates the risk of metallic corrosion, making this valve ideal for applications where fluid purity and material integrity are critical.
The seat is fabricated from EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber, which provides a resilient, leak-tight seal and excellent compatibility with water treatment chemicals, dilute acids, and alkalis. The EPDM seat ensures consistent sealing performance across repeated open/close cycles and a wide temperature range.
Operation is achieved via a distinctive red lever handle, which provides clear visual indication of valve position and allows for quick manual actuation. The lever design is ergonomic and suitable for frequent operation in industrial environments.
Mounting Styles and Flange Compatibility
This valve is available in two mounting configurations. The wafer style is designed to be clamped between two flanges using through-bolts, offering a compact and lightweight installation. The lug style features threaded inserts on the valve body, allowing it to be bolted independently to each flange — enabling dead-end service and simplified maintenance without disturbing the downstream piping.
The valve is compatible with both ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) flange standards, ensuring broad interoperability with existing piping infrastructure across international installations.
Chemical and UV Resistance
CPVC exhibits outstanding resistance to chlorinated solvents, acids, bases, and oxidising agents, making it suitable for handling a wide range of process chemicals. In addition, the material offers inherent UV resistance, allowing the valve to be used in outdoor installations without significant degradation from prolonged sunlight exposure.
Typical Applications
The CPVC Butterfly Valve is well suited to a variety of industrial and process applications, including:
- Chemical dosing and transfer lines
- Water and wastewater treatment plants
- Swimming pool and aquatic facility pipework
- Industrial process piping handling corrosive fluids
- Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing facilities
Its combination of chemical inertness, lightweight construction, and ease of operation makes the CPVC Butterfly Valve a cost-effective and dependable choice for engineers specifying corrosion-resistant flow control solutions.
