Overview

CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) elbows are precision-engineered fittings designed for demanding industrial piping systems. Manufactured from high-grade CPVC compound, these elbows offer exceptional resistance to a broad spectrum of corrosive chemicals, elevated temperatures, and aggressive process fluids — making them the preferred choice over metallic alternatives in many industrial environments.

Material Properties

CPVC is a thermoplastic produced by chlorination of PVC resin, resulting in a material with superior thermal stability and chemical resistance. Key material properties include a maximum service temperature of up to 93°C (200°F), excellent resistance to acids, bases, salts, and aliphatic hydrocarbons, low thermal conductivity, and inherent flame retardancy. The material is lightweight yet structurally robust, reducing installation effort and long-term maintenance costs.

End Connection & Joining Method

These elbows feature socket weld ends, providing a reliable and leak-free connection when joined using CPVC solvent cement. The solvent cement joining method creates a chemical fusion bond between the fitting socket and the pipe, effectively forming a monolithic joint with pressure ratings equivalent to the pipe itself. No threading, flanging, or hot work is required, simplifying installation and reducing downtime.

Available Angles & Size Range

CPVC elbows are available in two standard deflection angles to accommodate various piping layout requirements:

  • 90° Elbow: For sharp directional changes in piping runs.
  • 45° Elbow: For gradual directional changes, reducing flow turbulence and pressure drop.

The size range spans from 1/4" to 6" nominal pipe size, covering the majority of industrial and commercial piping applications. All sizes are dimensionally consistent with ASTM F439 standards, ensuring compatibility with standard CPVC pipe and other compliant fittings.

Chemical Resistance

CPVC elbows demonstrate outstanding resistance to a wide range of aggressive media, including chlorine and chlorinated compounds, dilute and concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric), caustic solutions, oxidizing agents, and many industrial solvents. This chemical inertness makes CPVC elbows ideal for use in environments where carbon steel or stainless steel fittings would corrode or degrade prematurely.

Compliance & Standards

All elbows are manufactured in compliance with ASTM F439, the standard specification for socket-type CPVC plastic pipe fittings, Schedule 80. This ensures consistent wall thickness, dimensional accuracy, and pressure performance across all sizes.

Typical Applications

CPVC elbows are widely used across industries where corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility are critical:

  • Chemical processing plants handling acids, bases, and reactive compounds
  • Water treatment and desalination facilities
  • Corrosive fluid piping in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing
  • Pulp and paper industry effluent and process lines
  • Plating and surface finishing operations
