Overview
The CPVC Tee is a branch fitting manufactured from Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC), designed to create a 90-degree branch connection in pressurized piping systems. Available in equal and reducing configurations, it allows a single pipeline to split into two flow paths or to introduce a branch line at any point in the system. Its robust construction and precise socket dimensions ensure leak-free, long-lasting joints when assembled with solvent cement, making it a reliable choice for demanding industrial environments.
CPVC is the material of choice for chemical processing and water treatment applications due to its outstanding resistance to a broad spectrum of aggressive media, including strong acids, alkalis, oxidizing agents, and corrosive fluids that would rapidly degrade metal or standard PVC fittings. The chlorination process that distinguishes CPVC from conventional PVC significantly raises its heat deflection temperature, allowing continuous service at fluid temperatures up to 200°F (93°C). This combination of chemical inertness and elevated temperature tolerance makes CPVC tees indispensable in chlorine dosing systems, acid transfer lines, plating facilities, and industrial water treatment plants.
Each fitting features socket weld ends, which accept plain-end pipe cut to length and prepared with a light chamfer. Joining is accomplished with a compatible CPVC solvent cement that chemically fuses the pipe and fitting surfaces into a monolithic, pressure-rated bond. This solvent cement method eliminates the need for threading, flanging, or hot-work permits, reducing installation time and labour costs while producing joints that are as strong as — or stronger than — the pipe wall itself. Proper surface preparation and the use of a primer where required by local codes are recommended to achieve full joint integrity.
The fitting is available across a wide size range from 1/4" to 6", covering the majority of industrial piping schedules and flow requirements. Equal tees provide the same bore diameter on all three ports, while reducing tees offer a smaller branch outlet to accommodate different pipe sizes within the same system without additional reducers. Both configurations conform to ASTM F439, the standard specification for socket-type CPVC plastic pipe fittings, ensuring dimensional accuracy, wall thickness, and pressure ratings consistent with industry expectations.
Finished in a distinctive dark grey colour for easy identification on site, CPVC tees are lightweight compared to metal alternatives, reducing structural support requirements and simplifying handling during installation. Their non-metallic construction also eliminates galvanic corrosion concerns in mixed-material systems. Whether used in new construction or as a corrosion-resistant upgrade to existing metallic pipework, CPVC tees deliver a cost-effective, maintenance-friendly solution for chemical processing, water treatment, and a wide range of corrosive fluid pipeline applications.
