Overview

The CPVC Cross Tee is a four-way pipe fitting machined in a plus-sign configuration, providing equal-diameter ports on all four axes. Designed for distribution headers and branching manifolds, it allows a single inline flow path to split into two lateral branches simultaneously — making it an efficient solution wherever fluid needs to be distributed to multiple downstream points from a single source.

CPVC Material Properties

Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) is an engineered thermoplastic that extends the performance envelope of standard PVC through additional chlorination. This process raises the material's heat deflection temperature to approximately 200°F (93°C), making CPVC suitable for hot-fluid service that would deform or fail standard PVC fittings. CPVC also exhibits excellent resistance to a broad spectrum of acids, bases, salts, and aliphatic hydrocarbons, and it is inherently non-conductive and corrosion-free — properties that make it a preferred alternative to metal in aggressive chemical environments.

Socket Weld Ends and Solvent Cement Joining

All four ports of the Cross Tee feature socket weld (slip) ends, sized to accept standard CPVC pipe. Assembly is completed using CPVC-grade solvent cement, which chemically fuses the pipe and fitting into a single monolithic joint. When properly applied and cured, solvent-cemented joints are pressure-rated to the full system working pressure and are leak-free without the need for gaskets, O-rings, or mechanical fasteners. This joining method is fast, requires no special tooling, and produces a permanent, maintenance-free connection.

Size Range and Port Configuration

The Cross Tee is available in nominal pipe sizes from 1/4" through 4", covering the majority of industrial and process piping applications. All four ports share the same nominal diameter, ensuring balanced flow distribution across each branch. The symmetrical plus-sign geometry allows the fitting to be installed in any orientation — horizontal, vertical, or angled — without affecting hydraulic performance.

Chemical Resistance

CPVC demonstrates outstanding resistance to a wide range of industrial chemicals, including chlorine solutions, dilute and concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric), caustic solutions, and many oxidising agents. It is unaffected by biological growth and does not leach plasticisers, making it suitable for both aggressive chemical service and potable-water-adjacent applications. Always verify chemical compatibility with the specific fluid and concentration before installation.

ASTM F439 Compliance

This fitting is manufactured in accordance with ASTM F439, the Standard Specification for Chlorinated Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Plastic Pipe Fittings, Schedule 80. Compliance with this standard ensures consistent wall thickness, dimensional accuracy, and material quality, providing confidence in pressure ratings and long-term service reliability.

Typical Applications

The CPVC Cross Tee is widely used across chemical processing and industrial fluid distribution systems. Common applications include:

  • Chemical dosing and distribution headers in water treatment plants
  • Acid and caustic piping manifolds in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing
  • Cooling water and process fluid branching in chemical plants and refineries
  • Irrigation and fertigation distribution networks in agricultural facilities
  • Plating and surface treatment rinse systems requiring corrosion-resistant pipework

Its combination of chemical inertness, elevated temperature capability, and straightforward solvent-cement installation makes the CPVC Cross Tee a reliable and cost-effective choice for demanding industrial piping applications.
