Overview

Material Standard

This seamless carbon steel pipe conforms to ASTM A106 Grade B, the industry-standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe intended for high-temperature service. It also meets API 5L Grade B requirements, making it suitable for pipeline applications in the oil and gas sector. The material offers a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa (35,000 psi) and a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa (60,000 psi), ensuring reliable performance under demanding operating conditions.

Manufacturing Process

Produced via the seamless manufacturing process, these pipes are formed without a longitudinal weld seam. A solid steel billet is pierced and rolled to achieve the desired diameter and wall thickness, resulting in a homogeneous pipe wall with uniform mechanical properties throughout. The absence of a weld seam eliminates a common failure point, providing superior pressure integrity and resistance to stress corrosion cracking compared to welded alternatives.

Schedule Options and Size Range

Available in Schedule 40 (standard wall) and Schedule 80 (extra-strong wall) configurations, this pipe covers a broad size range from 1/4" to 24" NPS (Nominal Pipe Size). Schedule 40 is suited for moderate-pressure applications, while Schedule 80 provides increased wall thickness for higher-pressure and more demanding service environments. Both schedules are stocked to ASME B36.10M dimensional standards.

End Preparation and Testing

Pipes are supplied with beveled ends (BE) prepared to a 30° bevel angle per ASME B16.25, facilitating butt-weld connections in the field. Each pipe undergoes hydrostatic testing at the mill in accordance with ASTM A106 requirements, verifying pressure integrity before shipment. Mill test reports (MTRs) are available upon request, providing full traceability of chemical composition and mechanical properties.

Typical Applications

This seamless carbon steel pipe is widely used across critical industrial sectors where reliability under elevated temperature and pressure is essential:

  • Oil & gas gathering, transmission, and distribution pipelines
  • High-pressure steam lines and boiler feed systems
  • Petrochemical and refinery process piping
  • Power generation plant piping systems
  • High-temperature and high-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems

With a maximum service temperature of 538°C (1000°F) and a black mill finish as standard, this pipe is a dependable choice for engineers and procurement teams specifying carbon steel piping for critical service applications.
