Overview

Product Overview

The Double Sphere Flanged Joint is a high-performance rubber expansion joint featuring two arches (spheres) that provide superior flexibility and movement absorption compared to single-sphere designs. Engineered for demanding industrial piping systems, it effectively isolates vibration, accommodates thermal expansion and contraction, and reduces noise transmitted through pipework.

Construction & Materials

The joint body is manufactured from high-quality rubber compounds, with the following material options available to suit different media and operating conditions:

  • EPDM – Excellent resistance to hot water, steam, and weathering; ideal for HVAC and water treatment applications.
  • NBR (Nitrile) – Superior resistance to oils, fuels, and hydrocarbons; suited for petroleum and chemical service.
  • Neoprene (CR) – Good all-round resistance to weathering, ozone, and moderate chemicals; suitable for general industrial use.

The rubber body is reinforced with multiple plies of high-tensile synthetic fabric and embedded steel rings at the flanged ends to ensure structural integrity under pressure.

Two-Arch Design Advantage

The dual-arch configuration delivers significantly greater movement capacity than a single-sphere joint, accommodating:

  • Axial compression and extension
  • Lateral (transverse) deflection
  • Angular misalignment
  • Combined multi-directional movement

This makes the double sphere joint particularly effective in pump connections and systems subject to significant thermal cycling or ground settlement.

Flanged Ends & Dimensions

Flanged ends are supplied to PN10 or PN16 pressure ratings as standard, enabling direct bolt-up connection to mating flanges without special adapters. Key dimensional data:

  • Size range: DN40 to DN1200
  • Working pressure: 6 to 16 bar
  • Flange standard: PN10 / PN16 (EN 1092-1)

Typical Applications

  • HVAC systems – chilled water, heating, and condenser circuits
  • Water treatment and distribution plants
  • Industrial process piping
  • Pump inlet and outlet connections
  • Compressor and fan installations
