Flow Control Valve

The flow control valve is a precision pneumatic component designed to regulate the speed of actuators and cylinders within pneumatic circuits. By metering the volume of compressed air flowing through the circuit, it provides smooth and consistent control over the extension and retraction speeds of pneumatic cylinders, ensuring reliable and repeatable motion in automated systems.

At the heart of this valve is a needle-type flow restriction mechanism. A tapered needle is advanced or retracted by rotating the nylon adjustment knob, which varies the size of the orifice through which air passes. This allows fine, stepless adjustment of the restricted flow rate, giving operators precise control over actuator speed without the need for additional components.

An integrated free-flow check valve is built directly into the valve body. In the free-flow direction, the check valve opens fully, allowing unrestricted air passage. In the controlled direction, the check valve closes and all airflow is routed through the needle restriction. This combination enables meter-out or meter-in speed control depending on installation orientation, making the valve suitable for both unidirectional and bidirectional control configurations.

The valve body is constructed from high-quality brass, offering excellent corrosion resistance and durability in industrial environments. The ergonomic nylon adjustment knob provides comfortable manual tuning and resists chemical exposure. Compatible tube sizes range from 4 mm to 16 mm via push-in fittings, and threaded port connections are available in 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" BSP or NPT, ensuring broad compatibility with standard pneumatic systems.

Typical applications include controlling the travel speed of pneumatic cylinders, regulating actuator motion in pick-and-place machinery, managing feed rates in pneumatic presses, and fine-tuning clamping and gripping operations. The valve is widely used across manufacturing, packaging, material handling, and automation industries wherever precise pneumatic speed control is required.
