Overview

Product Overview

The Globe Valve is a linear-motion valve designed for precise flow throttling and positive shut-off in demanding industrial pipeline systems. Its distinctive spherical body shape and internal baffle create a tortuous flow path that enables fine regulation of flow rate, making it the preferred choice wherever accurate control is required alongside reliable isolation capability.

The valve's rising stem design provides a clear visual indication of valve position at all times, while the handwheel operator allows smooth, controlled actuation without the need for auxiliary power. This combination of features makes the globe valve an industry standard for process control applications where both throttling performance and operational simplicity are essential.

Applications

Globe valves are widely deployed across industrial process plants in a broad range of service conditions. Typical applications include:

  • Steam distribution and condensate return systems
  • Cooling water and process water pipelines
  • Crude oil, refined petroleum products, and hydrocarbon service
  • Natural gas and process gas pipelines
  • Chemical processing and petrochemical plant utilities

The valve's versatility across these media types, combined with its robust construction, makes it suitable for refineries, power generation facilities, chemical plants, and general industrial utilities.

Construction Details

The valve body is available in Carbon Steel (CS) or Stainless Steel (SS) to suit the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength requirements of the intended service. Flanged end connections conform to standard bolt patterns, ensuring straightforward integration into existing piping systems with no special tooling required.

The rising stem design threads through the bonnet and travels upward as the valve opens, providing an unambiguous visual indicator of valve position. The handwheel operator is mounted at the top of the stem, offering ergonomic manual control with sufficient mechanical advantage for reliable operation across the full pressure range.

Size Range and Pressure Ratings

Globe valves are available in nominal pipe sizes from 1/2" through 16", covering the majority of industrial process piping requirements. Pressure ratings span ANSI Class 150 through Class 600 in imperial-standard systems, and PN16 through PN40 in metric-standard systems, accommodating a wide range of operating pressures encountered in process plant service.

Sealing and Packing

Stem sealing is achieved through a gland packing arrangement available in two material options. PTFE packing is recommended for lower-temperature applications and services where chemical inertness is a priority, offering low friction and excellent resistance to a broad range of process fluids. Graphite packing is specified for high-temperature steam and hydrocarbon services, providing superior thermal stability and long service life under cyclic operating conditions.
