Overview
The HVAC Thermometer is a precision instrument designed for reliable temperature measurement across a wide range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning applications. At its core, the thermometer employs a bi-metallic element sensing technology, which responds accurately to temperature changes by exploiting the differential thermal expansion of two bonded metals. This proven sensing method delivers consistent, repeatable readings without the need for batteries or external power, making it ideal for continuous monitoring in demanding HVAC environments.
Designed for versatile installation, the thermometer supports both duct mounting and pocket (immersion) mounting configurations. Duct mounting allows the instrument to be fixed directly into an air duct wall, measuring the temperature of the airstream as it passes over the probe. Pocket mounting enables immersion into pipes or vessels — particularly suited for chilled water pipes and hydronic systems — where the probe is inserted into a thermowell or directly into the fluid. Various probe lengths are available to accommodate different pipe diameters, duct depths, and installation requirements.
The thermometer covers a temperature range of -40°C to +70°C, making it well-suited for both sub-ambient chilled water circuits and warm supply-air ducts. The easy-read analog scale is clearly graduated and positioned for straightforward on-site readings without the need for digital displays or data loggers. The large dial face ensures visibility even in low-light plant rooms or confined duct access points.
Housing options include stainless steel for corrosive or high-humidity environments and ABS plastic for standard indoor HVAC installations where weight and cost are primary considerations. Both housing types are engineered to withstand the mechanical stresses and environmental conditions typical of HVAC plant rooms, air-handling units, and ductwork installations. The robust construction ensures long service life with minimal maintenance.
Typical applications include supply and return air ducts, chilled water and heating water pipework, air-handling unit coil sections, fan coil units, and refrigeration plant monitoring. The HVAC Thermometer is an essential tool for commissioning engineers, building services technicians, and facilities management teams who require dependable, at-a-glance temperature data to maintain system efficiency and occupant comfort.
