Overview

Product Overview

The Metal Jacket Gasket is a high-performance sealing solution engineered for demanding industrial applications. It combines a compressible, asbestos-free filler core with a durable metal outer jacket, delivering reliable sealing integrity under extreme temperature and pressure conditions. These gaskets are widely used in petrochemical, power generation, and process industries where conventional soft gaskets are insufficient.

Construction

Metal Jacket Gaskets consist of two primary components: a metal outer jacket and a soft filler core. The jacket provides mechanical strength and resistance to blowout, while the filler core ensures conformability to flange surface irregularities.

Jacket Materials

The outer jacket is available in three primary materials to suit different service environments:

  • Soft Iron – Cost-effective option for moderate-temperature steam and water services.
  • Stainless Steel (SS 304 / SS 316) – Excellent corrosion resistance for chemical and process applications.
  • Inconel – Superior performance in high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive environments such as refinery and offshore applications.

Filler Materials

All filler materials are 100% asbestos-free, in compliance with modern health and safety standards. Available filler options include:

  • Asbestos-Free Mineral Fibre – Suitable for general-purpose sealing at elevated temperatures.
  • Flexible Graphite – Ideal for high-temperature steam, hydrocarbons, and aggressive chemical media, offering excellent compressibility and recovery.

Available Shapes

Metal Jacket Gaskets are manufactured in two standard profile shapes to accommodate different flange and equipment geometries:

  • Oval – Provides a larger sealing contact area, commonly used in heat exchanger covers and pressure vessel manholes.
  • Flat – Standard profile for high-pressure flanged joints and general industrial piping.

Temperature and Pressure Ratings

Metal Jacket Gaskets are rated for service temperatures up to 550 °C (1022 °F) depending on jacket and filler material selection. Pressure ratings extend to Class 2500 (PN 420) and beyond for custom configurations. Graphite-filled variants offer the broadest temperature range, while mineral-filled types are suited to moderate-temperature applications.

Typical Applications

These gaskets are the preferred sealing choice across a broad range of critical industrial applications:

  • Heat exchanger covers and channel flanges
  • Pressure vessel manholes and inspection covers
  • High-pressure pipeline flanges in oil, gas, and petrochemical plants
  • Steam turbine and boiler connections
  • Valve bonnets and pump casings requiring robust sealing
