Overview

Product Overview

The Steel Reinforced Rubber Gasket is a full-face sealing solution engineered for reliable performance in low-pressure flanged piping systems. Combining the flexibility and chemical resistance of rubber with the dimensional stability of an embedded steel mesh, this gasket delivers consistent sealing integrity across a wide range of industrial and building services applications.

Construction

Each gasket is manufactured from high-quality EPDM or NBR rubber compound, selected to suit the intended service medium. EPDM formulations are recommended for water, steam, and outdoor weathering environments, while NBR compounds offer superior resistance to oils and hydrocarbons.

A precision-formed steel wire mesh is vulcanised into the rubber body during manufacture, providing internal reinforcement that prevents gasket blowout, extrusion under bolt load, and creep relaxation over time. The full-face design ensures even load distribution across the entire flange face, eliminating the risk of flange rotation or distortion.

Applications

Steel Reinforced Rubber Gaskets are widely used in the following systems:

  • Potable and industrial water distribution pipelines
  • HVAC chilled water and heating water circuits
  • Cooling tower and condenser water systems
  • Fire protection and sprinkler pipework
  • General low-pressure process piping

Standards and Compliance

Gaskets are manufactured to conform to ANSI B16.21 and DIN 2690 dimensional standards, ensuring direct compatibility with standard ANSI Class 150 and PN6/PN10/PN16 flanges. All materials comply with applicable ASTM and ISO quality requirements, and EPDM grades are available with NSF/ANSI 61 certification for potable water contact.

Temperature Rating

The Steel Reinforced Rubber Gasket is rated for continuous service at temperatures up to 120°C (248°F). This makes it suitable for hot water heating systems, low-pressure steam condensate lines, and similar elevated-temperature building services applications. Operation beyond the rated temperature is not recommended without consulting the manufacturer.

Installation Notes

For best results, follow these installation guidelines:

  1. Ensure flange faces are clean, flat, and free from corrosion, scoring, or old gasket material before installation.
  2. Align the gasket concentrically with the flange bore and bolt holes before tightening.
  3. Tighten bolts in a cross-pattern sequence to achieve uniform compression across the gasket face.
  4. Apply the recommended bolt torque in at least two passes — an initial snug pass followed by a final torque pass.
  5. Re-torque bolts after initial pressurisation and thermal cycling to compensate for any gasket relaxation.
